I was interning at Mammoth Lakes when Pei came to visit. We both agreed that the food at American ski resorts weren't the best. In Japan, they have these extremely adorable, boxy little cars that look like pastel-coloured washing machines on wheels. Pei found them hilarious and started calling them the “bu hao yi si” car — a joke that sounds way better in Chinese. It’s so cute, it almost feels embarrassing to be seen in. When in America, it’s completely normal to stay in your ski gear — who really has the luggage space for coats and proper boots anyway? Well… that logic didn’t quite translate in Japan. I had a very memorable (and slightly embarrassing) three-hour train ride from Niseko to Chitose, where everyone was dressed in muted shades of grey and black, like winter office wear. And then there was me — in full traffic-light colours with zebra-striped pants. I will never forget that moment.

Our big family trip to GALA Yuzawa was a rollercoaster. My sister had gone on far more snowboarding trips than I had, while I was caught up in my startup journey.
